About Black Girls Run!
In 2009, Toni Carey and Ashley Hicks created Black Girls RUN! in an effort to tackle the growing obesity epidemic inthe African-American community and provide encouragement and resources to both new andveteran runners. The mission of Black Girls RUN! is to encourage African-American women to make fitness and healthy living a priority.
Scymentress Williams – Black Girls Run! Dallas – Lead Ambassador
As the Lead Ambassador for Black Girls Run! Dallas, my goal is to encourage and inspire every woman in the group to get up and get moving. I am big on accountability and taking ownership of my successes and even failures. Since assuming the role as Lead Ambassador in January of 2012, the group has grown to more than 1900 ladies. My running journey started in 2011, when I pledged to walk 3-5Ks after losing 45 pounds. More than a year later, I have kept the weight off and completed more than 20-5Ks, several Half Marathons, a Full Marathon and I am currently training for my second marathon, Rock n Roll San Antonio in November. I am always in TRAINING MODE and run 20-30 miles a week.
In addition to sharing my running journey with the ladies of BGR! Dallas, I run with my 13 year old son, who is scheduled to complete a Half Marathon with me in 2013. There are 3 key elements to my success as a runner: training, nutrition and fashion. I love fancy running pants and headbands. I love to RUN, FUN! I take pride in making sure every woman in the group has a fun and memorable experience.
